The coursing calendar for the 2012 is currently being finalised.  Once ratified the 2012 coursing season calendar will be uploaded to this page.

We envisage that the same or similar KPI's will be used to measure our 2012 season.

At this point the next executive meeting scheduled is for early March and this is when our calendar will be finalised.  The plan is to start the season in May and complete it the end in August.

Below is the proposed coursing calendar.  Note there is a two day picnic meeting scheduled at Newstead for the Victoria Coursing Club and if other clubs conduct any Picnic meetings they too will be incorporated into our 2012 coursing calendar.

Strict Key Performance Indicators (KPI) will be utilised to determine how successful coursing is and the first significant KPI's) will be the number of greyhounds nominated for each meeting.  Must have 80 or more.  The Sylvester Doyle Puppy Championship and the Derby and Oaks for puppies whelped on or after 1st March, 2010 must have 32 puppy nominations for each event. Our supreme event the Waterloo Cup must have 64 All Aged Greyhounds nominated.

For coursing to continue it is imperative that we obtain these numbers.  Even surpass them, as this sends a powerful message that coursing has a place in the greyhound industry within Victoria.

This year we see a reduced calendar with 5 standard meetings, and one feature and our two traditional classic meetings.  thus giving 8 meetings in all, and 11 days of coursing.

A Veterinary Surgeon will be on course for the entire meeting.

This change was trialled last year and was very successfull.  Having a veterinary surgeon on course for our coursing meetings will become a standard part of our events.  All greyhounds will be vetted upon their arrival at the observation yard prior to their first course.  This will be the only time that the greyhounds will be vetted unless directed to by the stewards in charge of the meeting.

As you can see the Victoria Coursing Club has relocated to Newstead and has scheduled a grand opening of their facility as a PICNIC MEETING.  Other clubs may also schedule PICNIC MEETINGS.  The Lang Lang Coursing Club last year conducted a hugely successful PICNIC Meeting with over 130 nominations.
